Asset Information

Regulatory Documents > Asset Information

The effective management of the rail network infrastructure requires access to fit-for-purpose information about these assets. Network Rail currently has access to a wide range of information to support the discharge of these responsibilities, and in recent years we have made considerable improvements to our processes and systems. However, as with many organisations responsible for managing a large and diverse asset base, some of our existing data remains dispersed and of an inconsistent or undefined quality. Our Asset Information Strategy (AIS) has been developed over a number of years and is designed to overcome these inadequacies and ensure the effective and efficient provision of the required data. As part of our obligations under condition 24 of our network licence we publish a progress report on the delivery of this strategy twice a year. The latest Progress Report on the development of the Asset Information Strategy and Asset Register represents the position as at the end of March 2008.
