  • Special Awards

This was an opportunity for us to recognise two particular projects which we felt made a real difference to the way we work and the communities we live in.

  • Special award, Halton Scaffolding
  • Halton Scaffolding - Workington North temporary station

November 2009 saw the town of Workington split in two after devastating floods. Halton Scaffolding received a call from Network Rail with their plans to build a temporary station. Within hours Halton Scaffolding sent its contracts manager and team of 10 scaffolders who worked tirelessly in extreme weather conditions to complete two platforms, a footbridge and waiting shelter within four days, allowing the Northside community to be re-connected. This was a hugely challenging project for all involved. The teams from Network Rail and Halton Scaffolding delivered this project under extreme circumstances.

  • Special award, Gloves Community Gym
  • Gloves Community Centre – Railway Safety

The Gloves Community Centre forms a part of Network Rail’s wider No Messin’ campaign to offer exciting alternatives to playing on the railway where young people risk serious injury or even death. Young people can learn new skills, have a place to hang out with their friends in a constructive and most of all safe environment. The centre has I.T. and classroom facilities to help with academic studies and thanks to Amir Khan and his commitment to the scheme we have been able to work in partnership to keep develop this campaign nationally.
