    Implementing of the Leeds station travel plan.:

    • We have worked with Leeds City Council and consulted travel industry stakeholders in the development of this station travel plan
    • Execution of the plan began in August 2009
    • The plan includes the delivery of a range of schemes aimed at improving station access and onward sustainable journey information provision
    • It hoped to place Leeds Station at the centre of a sustainable city transport hub
    • We are working in partnership with Northern Rail and West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive (PTE)to provide a Cyclepoint at Leeds Station
    • This will provide supervised parking for over 250 cycles and a range of cycling-related services.

    To discuss cycle hire in our London stations with the Mayor.

    Meeting with the London mayor and Transport for London (TfL) in late 2009 to discuss ways in which the London Cycle hire scheme might be extended to our stations

    • Our Chief Executive Iain Coucher met with the London Mayor, Boris Johnson, in February 2010
    • We are looking to increase cycling provision with new racks and spaces at Liverpool Street, Euston and Waterloo
    • We support the Mayor of London’s ambition to make London a cycling city
    • We are working with TfL on the Mayor’s cycle hire scheme.

    To support heritage at stations like Kings Cross.

     We will continue to support heritage on the rail network in 2009/10

    • In 2009/10 we provided £2m in grant funding to the Railway Heritage Trust
    • We continue to work with local authorities on projects such as Kings Cross to protect listed buildings on our network
    • We are working with the Railway Heritage Committee, the National Railway Museum, English Heritage and heritage railways around the country.

    To trial raised platform modules to improve accessibility.

    In 2009/10 we will run trials of a raised platform installation (Easier Access Areas) which enable easier access to trains at St Albans Abbey in Hertfordshire, and at Aberdovey in Gwynedd

    • The raised platform, known as the Easier Access Area, has been installed at St Albans Abbey, Aberdovey and Valley stations
    • There are proposals to install these platforms at other stations with low platforms when third party funding becomes available.

    3 per cent reduction in passenger safety risk in 2014.
    We are on track to achieve our target

    On Track Status

    Last year's target:

    To reduce passenger safety risk by 3 per cent between April 2009 and March 2014

    • The safety risk to passengers associated with Network Rail activity fell by almost 15 per cent this year
    • We reported 0.215 FWI (fatalities and weighted injuries) per billion passenger km during 2009/10
    • This target is on track and we continue to strive for further improvement, particularly to prevent fatalities on the railway.
