• History of Leeds station

  • Leeds Station is the second busiest station outside London with 101,000 passengers a day.

There are five train operators at Leeds: Northern Trains, TransPennine, East Coast, Cross Country and East Midland Trains. Leeds station operates 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

    New southern entrance

We are working in partnership with the Metro (WYPTE) to build a new station entrance on the south side of Leeds station.

The aim of the project is to provide a connection from Leeds station to the south side of the City (Holbeck), which has been experiencing commercial and residential growth in the recent years.

The proposal is to widen the existing station western footbridge and provide escalators, stairs and lifts to a partial deck over the River Aire. The deck will then provide access to either side of the river for passengers to access either the Little Neville Street or the Holbeck area of the City.

    Leeds cycle point

Northern Rail has constructed a cycle point on the forecourt of Leeds station, on New Station Street by the taxi rank.  The cycle point incorporates the Rotunda building and is close to the bus interchange

The new facility is modelled on stations in the Netherlands with a two-storey building providing secure and supervised storage for around 300 cycles. There is also a counter area, small workshop and staff facilities. The cycle point opened in 2010.
