May Bank Holiday major engineering work

West Coast Main Line
Network Rail is continuing the multi-billion pound investment on the West Coast which will give passengers better, faster and more frequent journeys in 2009. Work on the West Coast includes:

  • installation of new computerised systems for points and signals which will improve safety on the line
  • new track between Newbold and Brinklow
  • replacements to overhead line equipment at High Oaks, Brinklow and Long Lawford Junction.

The West Coast upgrade will replace old infrastructure, remove bottlenecks, enhance and modernise signalling schemes. This will allow 125 mph line speed and more trains for passengers in 2009, leading to a reduction in journey times of almost one hour from London to Glasgow.

Please note that some scheduled work will continue on parts of the West Coast mainline in the week after the Bank Holiday which may affect the speed of your journey on this route.
