The overall health and safety performance of Network Rail depends on the safety performance of individual employees. As
such, every employee is held accountable for their own health and safety performance. This is achieved by clearly identifying and formally
allocating health and safety responsibilities where appropriate.
Every employee has a duty to comply with the mandatory standards and
procedures relevant to their role that indicate how particular processes should be carried out.
Working safely requires the
establishment of safe systems of work, delivered by a competent workforce demonstrating the correct safety behaviours.
No
employee of Network Rail, or any contractor working for Network Rail, is expected to carry out any task where the risk to themselves or any
other person is considered to be unacceptable.
Worksafe procedure
Our Worksafe procedure describes how employees should inform their line manager about unsafe work activities.
It also sets out the subsequent procedures to resolve the matter. If the line manager is unable to identify a safe system of work to the
satisfaction of the person who has stopped work, the decision is reviewed by another manager.
Every time the Worksafe procedure is started, the situation is reported and investigated.
