Bristol Parkway Platform 4
Network Rail has built a new platform (platform 4) at Bristol Parkway. This work is part of our wider investment programme to improve train performance and make services more reliable between London Paddington and the West Country and South Wales over the next few years.
The platform is located adjacent to the existing London bound platform forming an island platform. A new Passenger waiting room including a customer helpdesk has been provided. First Great Western contributed £100,000 towards this facility.
Work started on site in December 2006 and the new platform opened in May 2007 and is being used to ease congestion for trains coming into and departing from Bristol Parkway Station towards London and Birmingham. From December, First Great Western is planning to extend the services which currently terminate at Filton Abbey Wood to Bristol Parkway using the new platform.
The project which involved track and signalling works as well as the new platform cost £3m and was funded by the Network Rail Discretionary Fund.
