• Enhancements

Encompasses all functions, adding to and improving the network

  • Portfolio and Sources

The national rail network is maintained and renewed by Network Rail. In addition, and increasingly important, as demand for rail transport reaches levels not seen for 50 years, the network needs to be enhanced and enlarged, especially at bottlenecks. We are very active both in delivery and in enabling others to deliver the new infrastructure and functionality needed for capacity and capability improvements.

Funding comes from DFT, Passenger Transport Executives, Welsh Assembly and Scottish Executive, from Local Authorities, developers and private companies including ports, motor manufacturers, steelworks and supermarket chains. Network Rail has it’s own substantial funding for unblocking capacity bottlenecks and improving Safety & Environmental performance.

The National Team comprises multi-functional sponsors, project managers and other experts, c. 500 people.
