Professional Development
We aim to offer the right qualification at the right institution to equip our people to deliver our business objectives.
Our professional development programmes are designed so that our people have the technical and professional qualifications that they need for their jobs.
We offer a range of programmes that meet national standards and are accredited by a university, college or professional body. We choose the best two or three suppliers for each specialism, such as the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IMechE), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS). In particular, we work with Sheffield Hallam on the Foundation Degree in Railway Engineering and the University of Warwick for our leadership development programmes.
We provide job-related training at all levels, including:
- Masters degrees
- Bachelor degrees
- Professional Diplomas
- Higher National Diplomas (HND)
- Higher National Certificates (HNC)
- National Vocational Qualifications (NVQ).
We align our professional development closely with our business objectives. For example, we conduct an annual review of our requirement for qualified engineers at each level and provide the accredited training places to meet that requirement.
We are committed to developing our people so that they we can meet our future business needs from within the organisation and provide our people with real opportunities to build exciting and challenging careers with Network Rail. For this reason, individuals are also able to submit proposals for their own technical or professional development which will be evaluated against business needs by their line managers and Human Resources.
