    Future plans

The programme will significantly improve connections, journey times and service opportunities between Edinburgh and Glasgow via all routes as well as to Alloa, Dunblane and Stirling from Scotland's largest cities. Subject to consultation and approval by the Scottish Government this will be delivered by 2016.

EGIP is the next and largest building block in the phased improvements across the central Scotland rail corridor and will meet current and future demands. The programme will be funded by the Scottish government and delivered by us.

  • Faster, more frequent services ►

More than just Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Improved reliability, increased service frequency, reduced journey times, better stations and improved links with other modes of transport through interchange facilities across the central Scotland rail corridor.

    Have your say ►

Until the end of November we will be holding consultations across Central Scotland seeking views on the proposals. We want to hear from your at one of our public meetings, exhibitions or online.

    Better for the environment

Electrified rail is the most carbon efficient mode of mass transport and is an essential part of a future low carbon economy. New modern electric trains are lighter and quieter than the diesel trains they will replace.

    Supporting Scotland's economy

Investment in rail infrastructure has been proven to be a key to stimulating economic growth and unlocking investment opportunities for the communities it serves which means more job opportunities for more people.
